[Who the—? How unusual, she hadn't been expecting anyone. Kelly peeks through the blinds that block out the light from the narrow window by the door — it never hurts to be cautious when you make a living out of eco-terrorism. When she sees the familiar face outside she hurriedly pats and runs her fingers through her unkempt hair (should she run upstairs for a brush? ...No, no time) before fumbling with the chain and opening the door.]
...Lani? [Practised welcoming-grin is go!] Well hello there, stranger! What are you doing here?
[Yes, yes, you recover and please remove those shoes of yours before stepping any further into Kelly's sweet-smelling, clean-if-cluttered home, while Kelly herself zooms off into one of the open doorways nearby. The sounds of clinking china and running water soon follow.]
Mm! Make yourself at home! [The click and resulting rumble of the kettle being switched on, duller rustling noises and a few bangs as cupboards are rummaged through. You can go through and join Kelly in the kitchen, Lani. Or you can nose around, anything works.]
No, I've got it! [Kelly lifts down a pink-and-white polka-dotted biscuit tin and places it on the sideboard. She closes the current cupboard and opens the one next to it, taking down a clear coloured-glass jar of sugar. Instead of closing the door again, she stands to the side and holds it open for Lani to see inside.]
What kind of tea do you want?
[There's quite an impressive selection of fancy looking boxes, although only two or three of them appear to have been opened. Lani will have to look for herself because Kelly listing them off would take too long, there are a few too many.]
[...Which one tastes the least foul, um...English breakfast tea is probably the safest bet. Kelly rips the top off of the unopened box and plucks two bags from the inside before closing the cupboard door. She drops the pair into the teapot and pours in the water from the kettle.]
[Kelly gives the teabags one deft stir, places the lid on the teapot and turns to face Lani. She leans against the counter with her hands gripping the edge and allows her face to light up with another strategic smile. She'd actually been hoping to use today to go over a few contest routines, but...there are points to be gained here, after all.]
[Scurrying over, placing a hand flat at the small of your back and scooting you towards the living room.]
You should sit! You haven't sat down since you got here, right? So, make yourself comfortable!
[And lo, there is the most purple two-seat sofa, piled with cushions of various textures, colours and shapes. None seem to match, much like the rest of the room. The coloured and cluttered space has the appearance of being an attempt by the owner to gather together all of their favourite things rather than any effort to create a set theme or feel. ...Unless 'homely' or, perhaps more apt, 'house of a charity-shop bargain addict' was what they were going for...
Without another word Kelly will flash out of the room once again — can't let the tea go cold it's even worse that way.]
[A couple of moments later Kelly will re-emerge balancing a tray with two steaming mugs of tea, the jar of sugar, and a plate of biscuits — party rings, no less, though there are fewer than she had originally planned to offer, seeing as Lani mentioned she make cookies already.
She sets it down in a precarious position on the corner of the coffee table, pushing piles of backdated fashion and Contest magazines to the side so she can slide it further towards the centre and out of danger of toppling off. She'll sit down next to Lani, reaching for her tea and the sugar jar.]
[Then the illusion is complete! That's precisely the reason Kelly drinks the stuff.
Several spoonfuls of sugar go into that tea before Kelly wriggles back on the sofa and tucks her legs up in front of her, mug in one hand and a few biscuits in the other.]
Hey, do you know what? I think you're my first guest since I came here.
